Artificial Turf has the potential to enhance parks and communities around the world, and Quebec, Canada is no exception. MontrealGazette.com reports that the new synthetic sports fields at Terra Cotta Park in Pointe-Claire, Montreal have been ready and in use for nearly a week now.
The $4.6 million project — paid for by Quebec and Ottawa – includes two new full-sized artificial grass lawn fields for soccer and rugby practices and exhibition matches. Along with advanced artificial turf, both multipurpose synthetic turf fields boast larger stands, team and referee benches, a scoreboard, and warm-up tracks.
One of the main advantages of using artificial turf is increased playing time for the soccer season. According to the article, the soccer season will be extended from earlier in the spring to later into the fall. The new fake lawn playing fields also reduce the wear and tear of the city’s natural grass fields. And with lower maintenance costs, the new turf is a smart investment.
