The backside of our property has always been a low swampy pit. When I contacted Artificial Turf Supply about a synthetic turf putting green I was not even thinking to put the putting green in that area. But when I heard that the base material needed for fake grass is drainage rock, I was able to put some ideas together with their sales associate for building up my trouble area and making it usable with artificial grass. I used a ¾ inch road base for about 8 inches to raise it higher than the surrounding area and topped this off with an inch or two of compacted stone dust. It felt like a road when I was finished and all the water drained away from the area. Ever since I completed the artificial putting green I have been thinking about replacing my sod with an artificial lawn because of drainage issues, water bills and also the upkeep involved with a real lawn.
