WEB crop korfbal de knipe IMG_7763The “De Knipe” Korfball club from the Netherlands have for a little while already been playing their matches on a Domo® Champion Ascari artificial grass mat installed by Grontmij. Nothing particularly new in the Korfball world these days perhaps, but quite a step forward for this refurbished sports park. De Knipe’s non-filled artificial grass pitch is the cutting edge in multifunctional artificial grass mats.

It took the “Knypsters” six years to install this completely new accommodation. Now, in addition to korfball players benefitting from it, the Read Swart footballers, volleyball players, tennis players and survival skills trainers do too, as the new pitch is multi-functional. It is primarily suited to korfball and football. The new artificial grass mat with its 32-mm grass fibres is filled in with 10 mm of sand, leaving a free pile height of 22 mm. The pitch has no rubber infill like traditional football pitches, so displaced rubber, rubber smells and pitch warming are all things of the past. It is still only in the pilot stage for Korfball, but the “De Knipe” club says that the biggest advantage over any “normal” artificial grass pitch is that it gives fewer “burns” when players slide.
