The 2012 Olympics are fast approaching, and officials are making sure London’s Olympic venues will stand-up to the ultimate sporting test by installing long-lasting and hard-wearing artificial grass.

Read on and find out why artificial grass is fit for world champions.

London is already buzzing with excitement over the 2012 Olympics – and outdoor venues are preparing themselves for the ultimate sporting test by installing hard-wearing artificial turf.

Many outdoor Olympic venues will be using resilient artificial grass, and it’s no real surprise as a recent decline in outdoor cricket pitches across the capital has highlighted just how difficult real grass is to maintain.

The London Evening Standard has reported that outdoor cricket pitches are dwindling across the capital, and experts are of the opinion that it’s because real-grass pitches are too difficult and expensive to maintain.

Artificial cricket pitches, however, seem to be increasing in popularity as they are much easier to look after, particularly in drought or harsh winter weather conditions. Although cricket won’t feature as a sport in the forthcoming Olympics, the Lord’s Cricket Ground – complete with artificial turf – will be acting as a venue for the games.

And with sports including hockey, tennis and equestrian events taking place on artificial grass clad venues around the city, artificial grass is set to be a real fixture at London 2012.

Playing sport on artificial grass can be even better than on real grass – as synthetic lawns absorb shock better than natural pitches, making it easier on joints.

Though it’s not just sportsmen that can make the most out of artificial sporting pitches. Brands can also use artificial grass to their advantage using artificial grass logo mats ahead of the Olympic season.
