A soft landing material, artificial grass is perfect for child and pet friendy gardens

Easy-to-maintain artificial grass is already a firm favourite with busy garden lovers who have little time to spend on tiresome lawn care.  And who has less time to spend on gardening chores, than parents who are busy caring for boisterous little ones? And doubly good news for parents is the fact that artificial grass is not just the easy option, but a child-friendly option too.

A soft-landing material for adventurous kiddies prone to bumps and scrapes or little ones that are tentatively finding their feet, artificial grass is just the thing for family-proof gardens according to Guardian journalist Annie Gatti.

In an article detailing how to child-proof your garden, Annie Gatti explained that artificial grass “is soft for little feet and tumbles” – making the perfect garden for fun, family-friendly picnics, ball-games and tent-pitching.

And parents looking to child-proof their gardens don’t need to sacrifice on their own planting and style preferences, as according to Gatti, gardeners can use raised bedding to keep gorgeous plants from being trod under excitable little feet, and zone their garden to mix child-friendly artificial grass areas with grown-up zones which feature natural grasses, paving or decking.

The journalist added that parents shouldn’t spend a fortune on expensive garden-based toys, tree-houses and climbing frames, as children are likely to return to playing on grassy patches after the novelty of an expensive toy has worn off.   Though, Gatti conceded, garden swings, slides and trampolines seem to be enduringly popular and budget friendly garden-play additions.

Gatti advised parents thinking of adding a swing, slide or trampoline to consider adding artificial grass, with a thick underlay, to their garden in order to “make sure there’s a soft landing for the inevitable falls.”

Artificial grass has also been gaining in both style credentials and popularity, making it an even trendier choice for parents, after debuting at last year’s Chelsea Flower Show, where it drew praise from celebrity fan – and mother to a young daughter – Amanda Holden.
